Dress Code

A dress code for all students is required for two reasons:

First, if we perform for an outside group, such as a nursing home, and we do not have costumes we are still all dressed alike.

Second, it stops competition with the newest fads in leotards, etc. There may be someone in the class who cannot afford to purchase new styled leotards while others can; this helps keep everyone equal.

NOTE: Suitable covering must be worn to and from class. Leotards are not to be worn on the street. It is also suggested that ballet and tap shoes not be worn outdoors.

Dress Code Requirements:

Combo Classes:
Black long sleeved leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and tan tap shoes.

Tap Only:
Black leotard, pink tights and see instructor for shoe type.

Boys' Tap:
White t-shirt, black jazz pants and black oxford tap shoes.

Ballet/Pointe/Lyric:
Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and hair up in a bun.

Jazz:
Solid color leotard, tights and tan split-sole jazz shoes.

Clogging:
Solid color leotard, dance shorts , socks, and white clogging shoes.

Hip Hop:
Leotard, dance pants and tennis shoes.

Tiny Tots:
Pink short sleeved leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes.

Grooming

Hair must be off the neck and away from the face for every class. Ballet students MUST have hair in a bun.

Insurance

We do not carry medical insurance for our students. It is required that all dance students be covered by their own family insurance policies. If injury occurs it is understood that the student's policy is your only source of reimbursement.

Studio Policy

Students may not take dance classes at another studio while attending Miss Mona's unless cleared first with Miss Mona's. Even though we never criticize other studio policies or philosophies, it can cause problems for a student to attend another studio, especially if a teacher may be working on a specific area with a student and another teacher at a different studio is working on another area when the student can only handle one area at a time.

Voice Lessons

Voice lessons will be paid on the first of the month regardless of any absences in the previous month. Missed lessons may be made up at the convenience of the teacher. Because of bookkeeping complications that arise due to voice payments, each student will be required to pay for four lessons the first of each month, including the month of December.

Recital

Our recital is usually at the end of May or first part of June. Please reserve that week now because your child could be involved on any of these days with rehearsal.

a) It is a policy of the school to have a recital every year.
b) All students are entitled, and encouraged, to be in the recital, but it is NOT compulsory.
c) No one is allowed to miss stage rehearsals.
d) Costumes are paid for by the students - we either order them or supply the dressmakers to make them.
e) A deposit is taken in October and the balance is paid before the costumes are given out. Additional deposits on costumes can be made anytime during the dance season. If you are paying tuition or other charges at the same time you are making a deposit on costumes please specify on your check the amount that is to be applied to costumes. Costume deposits are NOT refundable.
f) Our policy regarding recital fees or tickets, etc. will be discussed at the parents' meeting prior to recital. The recital fee is not refundable.

Welcome

Children enrolled at Miss Mona's Studio will receive the finest training in the area. The studio offers a complete curriculum ranging in courses for the pre-school student to professional dancers. For many years we have enjoyed a fine reputation as a first-rate well operated studio. For a complete list of our policies, please refer to the Student Handbook. Below is a basic overview:

Registration Fee

A $15.00 fee is required with the registration form to reserve class space. A registration is not considered complete and class space is not reserved until this fee is paid. This fee is non-refundable.

Tuition

ALL STUDENTS MUST BE FULLY REGISTERED (REGISTRATION FEE AND TUITION PAID) BEFORE YOU CAN BE ACCEPTED IN CLASS. There are no refunds, credits or deductions. Once a student begins class monthly tuition is not refundable. Tuition for the current month is due the first week of each month.

Our teaching year begins the first week in September and ends the third week in May. The studio closes for two weeks at Christmas and one week for Spring Vacation. These classes are not figured in the overall tuition and are not made up. The date of these vacations will be published at a later date.

Tuition remains the same whether it is a long 5-week month or a short 3-week month and regardless of absences. It is payable monthly in advance, due the first lesson of each month. No statements will be sent unless your account is overdue. If tuition goes into an overdue status there will be a $10.00 late fee charge added to each monthly balance. This late charge is a compounded charge and will be charged each month until the balance is paid.

IPayments must be turned in using t he payment envelopes that we provide at the beginning of the year. There will be a $3 charge for anyone not using their payment envelope. This policy helps to ensure that the right payment is applied to the correct account.

Refunds

Refunds are only given due to serious illness or surgery. After the first or second class, if a child does not work out in class we will also give a refund, but this rarely happens. Occasionally a parent of a student that has been taking the classes for some length of time will call to say the family is moving out of state, but does not know exactly when. In this case the student continues classes and when the parent knows when the move is to be made we only charge for classes attended to that point. A refund is not given just because a student has stopped coming to class.

A written notice of withdrawal will be required before being dropped from attendance. YOU WILL CONTINUE to be billed until a written notice is received by our office.

Returned Check
& Late Charges

The service charge on all returned checks is $45.00.

A late charge of $10.00 per month compounded will be strictly enforced. Lesson money is due  by the 10th of each month. If the student is absent, the payment can be mailed in the envelopes that we provide. There can be absolutely no exceptions to this rule. A late charge will be assessed every month the outstanding balance remains due.

If it becomes necessary to refer the account to an attorney for collection there will be a collection fee of thirty-three and one-third percent (33 1/3%) of the unpaid balance plus all court costs.

Food & Drink

The is ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINKS allowed in the studio unless given special permission. Please help us keep the studio clean by cooperating. Please see that children who play with toys return them to their proper places. ABSOLUTELY NO CHEWING GUM. Dancers may carry water only in their dance bags.

Private Lessons

Private dance lessons are available at an extra charge of $80 for four 1/2 hour classes to learn a routine for a competition or pageant, for extra technique help or extra help if classes have been missed, etc... Most routines take at least 5 to 6 lessons to learn. Limited enrollment.

Policy Information

Every student is expected to conform to the rules and be courteous, disciplined and respectful of all students and staff. We reserve the right to dismiss anyone who displays attitude, poor attendance or conduct that is unsatisfactory. We are not responsible for lost items. We are not responsible for injuries sustained while in class or on the premises.

Remember to show respect to teachers, fellow students and office personnel. Any violation of this rule may result in dismissal from school.

We hope as you read through the following rules that you will agree and understand the reasons that motivate the need for each rule, as well as the need to enforce them. If you have any questions or problems concerning the studio or your children's instruction please leave a note at the office and we will be very happy to call you and discuss the matter with you. To have the confidence and cooperation of the parents and the love and respect of our students is the most important thing to us.

Class Attendance

Good attendance and prompt attendance is imperative! Absence and tardiness can have a negative effect on the entire class. Please make a special effort to have your child present and on time for every class. Please give attendance consideration when the time comes to join another activity later in the season. We limit the number of students in a class and because of this we are hopeful that everyone will honor their commitment and complete the entire year. Otherwise you are taking a spot that could have been given to someone else. If a child is going to be absent due to illness make up classes are available. Please consult your teacher.

All classes will start on time whether a student has arrived or not. An hour class will really be 55 minutes long, giving 5 minutes to change classes. This will help keep us on schedule.

Make-up's - A student may be allowed into another class in place of the class missed with the permission of the teacher.

Pick Up Procedure

PLEASE BE PROMPT IN PICKING UP YOUR CHILD AFTER CLASS. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL PREMISES UNLESS PICKED UP BY A PARENT. ALL STUDENTS ARE TO STAY INSIDE THE STUDIO. Failure to pick up your child within 15 minutes of class dismissal will result in a $10 late pick-up fee per occurence. This policy will be strictly enforced.

Cell Phones

Students may not use cell phones inside the studio, unless given express permission by the instructor. This includes the dressing areas, and includes texting as well as calling. If parents need to contact a student they may do so by calling the studio.

Inclement Weather

Please call and check the studio recording, or check the home page of our website, if you have any question concerning class cancellations. We make every effort to accommodate students who miss class because of inclement weather.

The rule for cancellation of classes because of bad weather is: When Roanoke County or the City of Salem schools close, the studio will be closed.

The fifth lesson in a five-week month is taught without extra charge. These lessons will count as make up days if the studio should close due to bad weather.

Holidays

Make up Classes

Classes missed for sickness, personal vacation, etc., may be made up in another class (the day and time of a make up class will be told to the student). It is the responsibility of the parent to see that these classes are made up.
