At Miss Mona's we have something for everyone!

Every child can benefit from the study of ballet, and a student may start at any age or skill level. Our instructors stress proper barre work and center floor exercises as they carefully monitor and develop the students' proper ballet technique. Technology is also stressed, as well as pronunciation and spelling of the French ballet terms. History and background of ballet is discussed as well.

In addition to being a beautiful art form, the study of ballet can add to a healthy lifestyle, with stretching and lean muscle toning being an important part of every class. Our ballet classes incorporate combinations and learning of choreography. The ballet classes prepare a child for Pointe work, once they are ready.

Tiny Tots Ballet
(ages 2 ½ to 3 ½)

This 45-minute class will teach your child the beginning ballet technique, creative movement and will help them develop rhythm, balance and coordination in a fun and relaxed, yet disciplined, atmosphere. Children will love the songs and activities that really keep this class moving!

Preschool Ballet
(ages 4-5)

This class teaches the ballet positions of the feet and arms and basic ballet technique. The class is also filled with fun routines for coordination, rhythm and balance, listening skills, along with personality songs. It's a great preparation for ballet, as well as beginning Tap!

Lyric (Ballet)

This more expressive form of ballet is taught to students in Intermediate Ballet and above. It combines ballet with a little bit of Jazz and is typically preformed to music with lyrics.

Pointe (Ballet)

This class is for Advanced, and sometimes Intermediate, students. The teacher will decide when individual students are ready, both technically and physically, for Pointe work.

The popularity of tap is at an all-time high with shows like "42nd Street." This class includes tap exercises and terminology, as well as learning tap combinations and routines. Tap dances are often combined with group personality songs.

The Combination Class
(Tap - ages 5 and up)

Classified as Tap I, Tap II or Tap III on the schedule, this class combines both tap and ballet into a one-hour lesson each week. The ballet portion includes terminology, proper stretching, ballet technique and learning choreography. The level class a child is placed in depends on their age and ability. In most cases a child is placed in a class based on age, but exceptions are sometimes made for a child who has previous dance experience or a difference in skill and ability. The combination class gives students a taste of both types of dance, as well as singing, so they may discover their own interests and talents as they develop in their studies.

Boys' Tap

Our Boys' tap class includes tap technique, creative movement and vocal training as well. It's a great opportunity for young men of any age, and a great asset for those interested in musical theatre. Start out like our own Robert (Vincenti) Gevrekian III did, with rhythm, music and style.

Clogging

This very popular fast-paced type of dance utilizes "jingle taps" worn on the shoes and always results in good fun for the participant, as well as the audience.

This class teaches jazz techniques with classic and current jazz and funk styles. Jazz classes include many types of music from jazz and Broadway to current hip-hop tunes. The curriculum includes warm-ups, stretching, jazz technique, combinations and routines.

It is preferable that these students have had training in ballet as a background.

The latest dance style to hit the scene is Hip Hop! We use appropriate hip hop music to teach this discipline, which is part street-dance, part jazz technique and all fun! Some jazz training is necessary.

Adult Classes

Offered periodically, these are a great way to get fit while learning new skills or refreshing your memory! Interest in adult ballet and tap is increasing all the time and many applaud it as a new option for fitness. These classes are non-competitive and work with individual needs and abilities while teaching technique, proper stretching and combinations. These classes are for all skill levels.
